The Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office in Geneva has issued a statement commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the occupation of Shusha city of Azerbaijan by Armenian armed forces.
According to the statement, the responsibility for the consequences of any action which Azerbaijan may be obliged to take in connection with the continued illegal presence of the Armenian armed forces and unlawful activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in order to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders will lie entirely with Armenia.
Although 23 years have passed since the occupation, the UN resolutions demanding the immediate withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories remained unfulfilled. Azerbaijan is confident that for the purposes of lasting peace, security and stability in the South Caucasus, the illegal occupation of its territories by Armenia must be ended and the inalienable rights of Azerbaijani internally displaced persons to return to their places of origin must be fully recognized and implemented.
