Toivo Klaar emphasized with satisfaction his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and said that fruitful discussions took place at the meeting.
Minister Mammadyarov informed the EU Special Representative about the current negotiations process on the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including the meeting of foreign ministers in Moscow.
He further highlighted the fact that during the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs last visit to the region an Azerbaijani serviceman was killed by a sniper shot opened by the Armenian armed forces, and noted that these bloody acts undermine the negotiation process. Noting that the next meeting at the level of the foreign ministers has already been agreed, the minister stressed that the realities on the ground are still the same. The armed forces of Armenia must withdraw from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and there is no alternative for the future development of the region.
In his turn, Toivo Klaar noted the importance of the substantial negotiations and noted the readiness of the European Union to contribute to the preparation of the populations for peace.
At the meeting, the sides also discussed the regional issues of mutual interest.
