Azerbaijani diaspora calls on US to press on Armenia in Karabakh issue
The Azerbaijani diaspora has called on US to press on Armenia in the Karabakh issue.

The 23rd article of USAN calling on the United States to insert every pressure on Armenia for the latter to take a constructive position in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict has been published.

USAN speaks of the need for withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as required by the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, which would allow Azeri refugees to return to their homes.

"July 23 for all Azerbaijanis is a day of mourning in connection with the occupation of the Azerbaijani city of Agdam by Armenian forces," ] an article published in the newspaper of Alabama on Tuesday reads.

In early 1988, the Armenian nationalists, who lived in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, with the support of the Armenian government began mass expulsion of Azerbaijanis from their places of traditional residence and secession of Nagorno-Karabakh.

By mid-1993, after the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and the brutal massacre in Khojaly, Shusha and Kalbajar area, Armenian troops moved into the center of Azerbaijan.

Nearly 6,000 Azerbaijanis were killed during the occupation of Agdam with the population of 153,000 people,. Property damage from the actions of the Armenian forces, according to the USAN, made 6 billion dollars.

In 1993, the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions demanding an immediate withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, which would allow Azeri refugees to return to their homes.

On March 14, 2008 the UN General Assembly reiterated its position on the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Armenia has not yet implemented the requirements of the leading structures of one of the largest and reputable international organizations.

According to the report of the U.S. Committee for Refugees of 2000, nearly 600,000 people from the western regions of Azerbaijan, including 42,000 right from Nagorno-Karabakh remain the displaced persons due to the conflict.
