Armenian court orders arrest of ex-president Kocharyan

An Armenian court on Tuesday ordered the arrest of former president Robert Kocharyan, who was freed on bail from pre-trial detention last month, RIA news agency reports.

Armenian Criminal Court of Appeal had decided to eliminate personal guarantee for Robert Kocharyan and impose detention as a preventive measure.

The court had read the verdict about changing the preventive measure for Robert Kocharyan, as well as changed the decision of Armenian Criminal Court of Appeal request to the Constitutional Court and suspending the proceedings on appeals by the Armenian General Prosecution against Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan.

Kocharyan faces criminal charges over overthrowing Armenia's constitutional order in the period of the March 1-2, 2008 deadly post-electoral events.
