Turkey rapidly building TANAP
The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) is being rapidly constructed in Turkey, Osman Birgili, the head of TEKFEN Insaat ve Tesisat AS company said, Anadolu agency reported on May 15.

TEKFEN Insaat ve Tesisat AS is one of the three contracting companies building the pipeline.

He said that almost 20 percent of the pipes, to be used in the gas pipeline construction, are made in China.

The three companies - Fernas Insaat AS, Sicim-Yuksel-AKKORD Adi Ortakligi and TEKFEN Insaat ve Tesisat AS are the contractors for the construction of the TANAP onshore area with the length of 1,337 kilometers. They will build a section of the gas pipeline to the city of Eskisehir.

The Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) reported in March 2015 that the companies, which will supply pipes for the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline project (TANAP) construction project, will have to obtain a certificate of the Institute.

The TANAP project envisages the transportation of gas of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from the Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey. TANAP’s initial capacity is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest of the volume to Europe. Turkey will receive gas in 2018. The gas will be supplied to Europe in early 2020 after the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is constructed.

BP and the TANAP consortium signed a shareholder agreement March 13, according to which, BP will become one of the shareholders of TANAP. The agreement is one of the main documents for BP’s ownership of a stake in the TANAP project.

Following the completion of a legal implementation procedure, TANAP’s shareholders list will be as follows: SOCAR – 58 percent, Botas – 30 percent and BP – 12 percent.
