Azerbaijani president: Double standards negatively affect both our country and public opinion in Europe
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday received a delegation led by Karin Strenz, head of the German-South Caucasus inter-parliamentary friendship group.

Karin Strenz presented his memorable gift to the head of state.

Ilham Aliyev bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany in different directions, including the area of interparliamentary cooperation, are at a high level, expressing his hopes that the visit of the delegation led by Karin Strenz, head of the German-South Caucasus inter-parliamentary friendship group, to Azerbaijan will contribute to further expansion of this cooperation. The president noted the importance of high-level meetings in the strengthening of bilateral relations, recalled his past visits to Germany and the efficient meetings he held there.

Strenz stressed the importance of the fact that Azerbaijan this year is the organizer of a historical event – the first European Games, saying his country is looking forward to watching these competitions. He also emphasized the necessity of the demonstration of a fair position regarding Azerbaijan, promising that they would spare no efforts to make sure there are no double standards and there is a fair position. ‘Double standards concern us,” he noted.

The Azerbaijani president noted with regret that the demonstration of an unfair position just prior to the first European Games is not in accordance with the spirit and rules of the Olympic Games. President Ilham Aliyev held that it’s necessary to have equal approaches towards all states, noting that double standards negatively affect both the country and the public opinion in Europe.

The sides noted the role of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, stressing the importance of large-scale energy projects being implemented on the initiative of our country, speaking of the prospects of the TANAP and TAP projects and exchanging their ideas on issues of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
