UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Tuesday he would visit the Kaesong industrial complex in North Korea on May 21.
Ban`s visit will be the first visit of a UN chief to North Korea in 20 years.

The Kaesong industrial complex is a special economic zone on the inter-Korean border which is jointly run by North and South Korea.

"I`m going to visit the Kaesong industrial complex on Thursday [May 21]. The Kaesong project is a win-win model for both Koreas."

"I reiterate my willingness to do whatever it takes to contribute to improving inter-Korean relations and promoting reconciliation and stability on the Korean Peninsula," Ban told a media briefing in South Korea.

"I hope my visit will provide a positive impetus to further develop it [relations] and expand to other areas," the UN chief added.
