Azerbaijan to win medals at European Games, Gymnastics Federation VP says
Azerbaijan expects a celebration of gymnastics during the First European Games, Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation First Vice President Altay Hasanov said after the test trainings of gymnasts, which were held in the run up to the upcoming European Games in Baku.
Hasanov reminded that the Gymnastics competitions at the European Games will be held on June 14-21. As many as 28 gymnasts will represent Azerbaijan at the European Games.

"The European Games will, for the first time, be held in Baku, here is where the history of the European sport will begin," Hasanov said. "We very much want to succeed at the European Games and everyone expects this success - the fans and the federation. We`ve gathered here to see the level of preparation of our athletes."

Hasanov further noted that the preparatory level of the gymnasts is satisfactory.

"If there are no injuries, the judges do their job fairly, and the gymnasts do fine, we will win medals," he said. "We believe in that."

Speaking about the conditions created in this regard, Hasanov mentioned the grand National Gymnastics Arena, tremendous fan-club and fan support.

He invited everyone, including the capital`s visiting guests, to the National Gymnastics Arena to watch the competitions during the Games.

Hasanov added that the tickets for the European Games are indeed inexpensive.

"There are no such prices for tickets even in Europe," he said. "Great conditions have been created here. Let`s all take part in this great holiday, and support our athletes."

He noted that the development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan began 10 years ago.

"Rhythmic gymnastics is the most developed one and the success of our athletes is related mostly with that type," Hasanov said.

He further added that the decision to hold the First European Games in Baku triggered the development of other gymnastic disciplines in the end of 2013, which included aerobics, women`s artistic gymnastics and trampoline.

"In the future, we expect success at the competitions in these types of sports as well," he said.

He said the team has the right mindset.

"The gymnasts are getting ready," he said. "There are mistakes, but we hope that at the European Games there won`t be any. We believe that our work will result in winning medals at the Games."

"The president of the Gymnastics Federation, Mehriban Aliyeva, the entire staff of the federation, athletes and coaches have put more efforts and a final result of this should be medals," Hasanov said.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent, which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
