State Commission created over Baku fire outbreak holds first meeting
Abid Sharifov: "The Commission will determine today the amount of the property damage in the apartments and pay compensation"
The State Committee which was created under the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev over the fire that quickly engulfed a multi-storey building situated in Baku’s Binagadi district, held its first meeting on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov, who chairs the State Commission has said.

Sharifov said the meeting considered a number of issues.

According to the latest information, 14 people – 8 women, 6 men, and 5 children –have died in the fire. 51 people have visited ambulatories and hospitals. 19 of them are still in hospital. 18 of the 19 hospitalized are in normal condition but the remaining one is in critical condition. The Ministry of Health has been told to seriously control the treatment of those injured, the deputy PM added.

Sharifov said that under the instructions of Mr. President, firstly the resettlement of the residents has been started, noting that special headquarters is operating there.

“We have firstly determined the state facilities for the resettlement of the fire victims. 56 apartments have already been determined and transportation was allocated at the first meeting of the Commission. Living expenses of them will be provided by the state till the restoration of their apartments. Those rejecting to move to the apartments we have determined will be paid funds to rent an apartment,” he noted.

The deputy PM also added that the state funeral costs of all the victims will be paid under the instructions of the president and the Baku City Executive Authority, the Binagadi District Executive Authority and the Ministry of Finance have already been instructed in this regard. The Commission will today determine the property damages and pay compensation.

“A criminal case has been launched on the incident. The culprits will be strictly punished. Our main goal is the resettlement of the people and providing them with the assistance.
Serious works are being carried out in this regard,” Sharifov underlined.
