"The suspect has been detained and in the near future a decision on choosing a restriction measure for him will be taken," Ivanova said, adding that the department had been directly involved in detecting the crime.
A source told TASS earlier that a major of justice at the local investigative department in Moscow’s eastern district had demanded the bribe from a representative of a city bank in exchange for guarantees not to carry out searches there and not to bring suspects to justice.
"The investigator attempted to get the bribe through a lawyer of the bank’s management and was caught red-handed in his office," the source said.
The suspect decided to abuse powers while investigating the criminal case between March 19 and May 25 and to receive a large-scale bribe for "not bringing legal proceedings," according to the investigators.
