Ilham Aliyev: Nagorno-Karabakh is ancient Azerbaijani land

Armenia continues the occupation of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent districts, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made the remarks at the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries in Baku Friday, AzVision.az reports.

President Aliyev noted that the Armenians have conducted the policy of ethnic cleansing against the Azerbaijani population, as a result of which over a million people became refugees and IDPs.

He stressed that as many as 613 civilians were killed during the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenia.

The head of state said that the UN Security Council’s resolutions calling for an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories have remained on paper for 26 years.

“However, resolutions on some countries are implemented within days, and it is necessary to put an end to this policy of double standard,” he added.

President Aliyev recalled that a number of international organizations have adopted resolutions that express support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

“I express my gratitude to the member states for their support to Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in NAM documents. Our historical monuments and graves were destroyed in the occupied territories. Armenia intentionally armenianizes all toponyms and carries out the policy of illegal resettlement in the occupied Azerbaijani territories,” he added.

The Azerbaijani president also spoke about the military provocation committed by the Armenians in April 2016.

“Some 6 civilians, including a child, were killed, 26 others were injured as a result of the Armenian military provocation in April 2016,” he said.

Nagorno-Karabakh is ancient Azerbaijani land, said President Aliyev, stressing that the conflict must be resolved within Azerbaijan’s severity and territorial integrity.
