John Kerry breaks leg in bike crash in France
US Secretary of State John Kerry, a cycling enthusiast, today broke his leg in a bike accident in France and will return home for further treatment.
Kerry, 71, who was flown by a helicopter to the Geneva University Hospital is in stable condition.

Kerry broke his right femur during the crash. Kerry "is stable and... did not lose consciousness," the State Department said in a statement.

He met with the accident while bicycling near Scionzier, France, some 40km south east of the Swiss border.

Paramedics and a physician were on the scene with the Kerry`s motorcade at the time of the accident.

Kerry had travelled to Geneva for negotiations with Iranian diplomats on that country`s nuclear programme. He was cycling about 30 miles from the city, which is closely surrounded by France`s territory.

He was due in Madrid tomorrow for the signing of a defence deal. But it has been confirmed he will call off the remainder of his four-nation trip and return to Boston.

Kerry is known for his love of cycling and often takes his bike with him when he travels.
