The Islamic Republic denies that 15 Iranians were killed in yesterday’s blast in Anbar, Zolfaghari said, Iran’s Fars news agency reported June 2.
At least 45 Iraqi police officers were killed in a suicide attack by IS group in Anbar province, Iraq on June 1. Suicide bombers rammed three vehicles packed with explosives into a base in the Tharthar area, on a road connecting the cities of Falluja and Samarra.
Some western media reported that 15 Iranian military forces were among the killed people.
Iran`s Ambassador to Baghdad, Hassan Danaeifar also rejected the report, saying those who spread such news are seeking to divert attention and show in vain that Iran is meddling in Iraqi affairs, the Islamic Republic’s IRNA news agency reported June 2.
Some western and Iraqi media have underscored the significant role of Iranian forces in fighting against the IS. The media reports say Iranian forces have a decisive presence on the battlefield of the fight.
Meanwhile Iranian officials said the Islamic Republic gives only advice and organizational structure to Iraqi forces.
The IS group has killed several high-ranking staff of Iran ’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Iraq during the conflict in recent months.
