Azerbaijan temporarily closes border with Iran

Azerbaijan has closed its border with Iran for two weeks over coronavirus fears, the Cabinet of Ministers told AzVision.az.

Azerbaijan made such a decision over the risk of coronavirus outbreak, taking into account the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the experience of other countries.

The Cabinet of Ministers noted that this issue was discussed with Iran’s relevant bodies and Iran was informed about Azerbaijan’s decision to close the state border.

The necessary corridor will be provided for Iranian citizens to leave Azerbaijan, as well as for Azerbaijani citizens, who are in Iran, to return home.  If necessary, visas will be issued for Iranian citizens on a humanitarian basis.

Azerbaijan continues contacts and cooperation with WHO and partner countries in connection with the risk of coronavirus.
