This is not the first visit of the Armenian delegation to Azerbaijan. Our territories are under occupation, diplomatic relations were cut off, but earlier Armenian athletes participated in sports competitions in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said in response to a question from Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper about the invitation of Armenian athletes to the first European Games.
The minister said a 25-member Armenian delegation will participate in the European Games.
“Earlier, Armenian delegations attended various international events in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan and Armenia have already developed a format for the participation in sports competitions. We used to send a representative to observe the situation on the spot. Now we mutually send a letter with a guarantee of security. That is enough,” Rahimov added.
“We expect the participation of Armenians in the World Chess Olympiad in 2016,” the minister said.
