Ministry of Energy issues forecast on use of alternative energy in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's goal is to bring the share of renewable energy sources in electric power production up to 30 percent by 2030, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Ecology Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy Alasgar Hasanov told Trend.

In accordance with the "Strategic Roadmap for Development of Utilities Services (electric energy, heating, water and gas) in Azerbaijan", approved upon the president’s decree, ensuring the production of clean electricity has been stipulated by a strategic goal, commissioning of new generating capacities, namely, 350 megawatts of wind energy, 50 megawatts of solar energy and 420 megawatts of renewable energy (20 megawatts of bioenergy).

Presently, Azerbaijan is taking steps to develop alternative energy. For this purpose, the negotiations are underway with foreign companies and investors, including the companies from China, the UAE, the US and the EU.

An alternative energy source is a renewable resource, it replaces traditional energy sources operating on oil, natural gas and coal, which, when burned, emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and this contributes to an increase in the greenhouse effect and global warming.

The reason for the search for alternative energy sources is the need to receive it from the energy of renewable or practically inexhaustible natural resources and phenomena. Its other advantage is environmental friendliness and profitability.
