Improvement of transportation infrastructure is on agenda of Turkic speaking countries
The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline served to the opening of an international energy corridor, and to the further opening of transportation corridor, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the third summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (CCTS) held in Azerbaijani city of Gabala on Aug. 16.

"For the first time in history, the Caspian Sea has been linked to the Mediterranean Sea, and this historic event, which is a great achievement, at the same time led to the implementation of other significant projects," the Azerbaijani President said.

According to President Aliyev, the works that are being carried out in transportation and energy spheres cannot be separated from each other.

"Restoration of the ancient Silk Road has become a reality. We are enriching this Silk Road, improving it with new infrastructure projects," Ilham Aliyev said. "These projects bring our peoples and economies together, and there is a multifaceted cooperation in oil and gas sector."

"All countries are successfully operating and carrying out activity here. Of course, the improvement of transportation infrastructure is one of the issues of the agenda, and much work has been done in this direction in bilateral and trilateral formats through the joint efforts," Azerbaijani president said.

The Azerbaijani leader noted that the implementation of various transportation projects, of course, requires a lot of funds.

"However, the economic development in our countries is going on very rapidly and the financial state of the countries is at a good level. In this situation, we should necessarily provide funding for major transportation projects in the future. I want especially to emphasize the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway among them, which particularly unites Europe and Asia. Continents will be united with the help of this railway, and our countries will become transit states. The railway will serve our peoples for hundreds of years. This is a great geo-political, geo-economic and cooperation project," President Aliyev said.

He expressed confidence that the putting of this project into operation will be marked soon, and thus the ancient Silk Road will be restored.

"I know that major transportation projects of great significance for each of these countries, are being implemented in Cooperation Council`s member states, and these projects altogether form the region`s new transportation map. Today, our countries are successfully and confidently developing," the Azerbaijani president underscored.
