Baku 2015 European Games, first in the history of the European continent, have started in Baku today.

The program has begun with the synchronized swimming competition. A qualifying stage of the duet competition has started in the free program. The program involves the athletes from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine.

Currently, Russian synchronized swimmers - Valeria Filenkova and Daria Kulagina are in the lead, scoring 89.2333 points together. Ukrainian athletes (87.5333 points) ranked second, while Spanish athletes (85.7333 points) ranked third.

Two synchronized swimmers Tatyana Nikitina and Yekaterina Valiulina represent Azerbaijan in this kind of sport at the European Games.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
