Turkmen president arrives in Baku to attend opening ceremony of Baku 2015
The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has arrived in Baku to attend the opening ceremony of the first European Games June 12.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and representatives of Baku 2015 European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) met the president at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, where the flags of the two states were waving.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov pays a working visit to Baku. At the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, President Berdimuhammadov will attend the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 first European Games as the honorary guest.

Several bilateral meetings are to be held as part of President Berdimuhammadov’s visit.

The cooperation issues in a number of key areas, including sport, will be discussed.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
