Azerbaijan brilliantly organized European Games opening ceremony, French senator says
Despite Azerbaijan’s being a small country, it was able to brilliantly organize the opening ceremony for the European Games, said Andre Reichardt, the French senator, the head of the France-Caucasus friendship group.

He made the remarks June 13 at a press conference in Baku.

“France supports the European Games in Baku, our sports delegation is one of the biggest,” said the senator.

He added that Azerbaijan is a young country in terms of independence, but at the same time the country is holding such a large-scale event, however it is being criticized from all sides.

“I am ready to support Azerbaijan and the development of our relations,” said French senator.

The European Games that started in Baku on June 12 will last until June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
