Azerbaijani karateka grabs gold medal
Azerbaijani karateka Irina Zaretska (68 kg) grabbed gold medal in kumite (karate) events at the First European Games.

She defeated Austrian Alisa Thereza Buchinge in the finals, 8:1.

The Azerbaijani karateka, Firdovsi Farzaliyev won on June 13 the gold medal in the kumite karate event in the weight category up to 60 kg.

On the same day, Azerbaijani karateka, Rafael Aghayev, won the men’s kumite karate event in the weight category of up to 75 kg as part of the Baku 2015 European Games.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
