German newspaper exposes anti-Azerbaijan campaign by Western media
Germany’s Berliner Tageszeitung newspaper has criticized attacks of German media on Azerbaijan over the first European Games.

According to the article, German media increased the number of negative articles on Azerbaijan which hosts the first European Games:

“Unfortunately, this is a smear campaign about Azerbaijan but not a criticism of German media. There is not any ground for claims against Azerbaijan on human rights. Appearance of issues such as economic transparency on the background of actuality of the European Games also influences the importance of the games. Azerbaijan has accredited all journalists to enlighten the first European Games to be held on June 12-28. German journalists are also among them”.

The article also says that the claims against Azerbaijan on suppression of the freedom of the speech are lie: “Freedom of speech and information was determined in the Constitution of Azerbaijan. Along with radios and TVs, there are hundreds of newspapers in Azeri and Russian languages, as well as over 50 news agencies in the country. Along with this, “Yeni Musavat” and “Asadlig” opposition newspapers also operate in the country. 70% of the population is internet users. No intenet resources have been prohibited. Freedom of assembly is ensured. Any unauthorized demonstration is managed peacefully and without incident”.

The newspaper says that no one was arrested over journalism or political activity.

“As in the Western democracy, Azerbaijan has also granted status of inviolability to the journalists. Contrary to the claims of some bloggers and journalists, the criminals are punished in Azerbaijan too”, the newspaper said.

The article also includes economic growth of Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijani government provides population to benefit economic opportunities at high level. This is also reflected in distribution of revenues from oil and gas production. According to recent outlook of the World Economic Forum, Azerbaijan ranked at 40th for economic competitiveness. It’s incorrect to politicize the first European Games as a sport event”.
