Greece intends to keep DEPA Gas Company under state ownership
"DEPA Gas Company to remain under state ownership and under state control"
The Greek government intends to leave Gas Company DEPA by the state-owned, and the Greek operator of the gas transportation system DESFA after the decision Commission EC competition will try to leave under state control, Greek Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis said at a meeting with employees of DEPA and DESFA.

The tender for sale of DEPA failed in 2013 after the main contender for the purchase of the company - the Russian "Gazprom" did not represent binding offers at the last stage of the competition. At the same time it held a competition for privatization of DESFA. 66% of its shares bought for 400 million euros by State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), but the European Competition Commission has not yet issued a permit for the completion of the transaction.

"Workers` representatives expressed their opposition to any form of privatization of DEPA as DESFA, pointing to the serious negative consequences of a possible sale of the economy, consumers and employment. They also stated its categorical opposition to the liberalization of the natural gas distribution market, promoted by the previous government, saying the risk a significant increase in bills for consumers"- the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Greece reported.

According to the report, Minister Panagiotis says that DEPA should and will remain in state ownership and under state control. “In relation to DESFA, after the decisions of the Commission for Competition of the European Commission efforts will be made in order to keep a controlling stake in state-controlled".

The minister promised the employees of enterprises that guide the ministry will firmly defend the rights of workers.
