Karen Vardanyan, expert of NGO, has prepared a comparative table (below) on electricity prices in 15 post-Soviet republics, based on which, among post-Soviet countries only Lithuania and Latvia have higher rates for electricity compared to Armenia.
The rate is approximately the same in Moldova. In Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, electricity rates are lower than in Armenia.
Recall, in May 2015, Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) appealed to the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission with a claim to increase the electricity tariff by 17 drams per kW/h. However, the PSRC is planning to increase the tariff for electricity supplied to consumers by 7 drams: a kilowatt-hour of energy will cost 48.78 drams during the daytime (previously – 41.85 drams), and 38.78 drams – the nighttime (previously – 31.85).
