Four Azerbaijani sambo wrestlers advance to finals at Baku 2015
Sambo competitions kicked off at The First European Games in Baku June 22. Azerbaijan is being represented by eight athletes.
Azerbaijani athlete Islam Gasimov, competing in men’s - 57 kg sambo event, gained a flawless victory over Romania’s Orlando Gruia, 9:0 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Gasumov defeated Georgia’s Vakhtangi Chidrashvili, 3:1. In the finals, Islam Gasumov will compete against Aymergen Atkunov, representing Russia.

Azerbaijani athlete, Amil Gasimov, competing in men’s -74 kg sambo event, advanced to the finals at the First European Games in Baku June 22. In the semifinals, Gasimov defeated Martin Ivanov (Bulgaria), 4:3. Amil will compete with Stepan Popov in the finals.

Azerbaijani athlete Kanan Gasimov, competing in men’s -90 kg sambo event advanced to the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Gasimov gained a victory over Ivan Vasylchuk (Ukraine), 2:1. In the semifinals, Kanan Gasimov lost to Russia’s Alsim Chernoskulov. He will compete for bronze medal.

Vasif Safarbayov, competing in men’s +100 kg sambo event, advanced to the finals. In the semifinals, Safarbayov defeated Razmik Tonoyan, representing Ukraine. In the finals, Vasif Safarbayov will compete against Russia’s Artem Osipenko.

Nazakat Khalilova, competing in women’s -52 kg sambo event, Khalilova gained a flawless victory over Ruta Aksionova, 8:0 in the semifinals. She will compete with Anna Kharitonova (Russia) in the finals.

Shahane Huseynova, competing in women’s -60 kg sambo event, lost to Yana Kostenko (Russia), 0:5 in semifinals. She defeated Shorena Sharadze (Georgia), 4:2 and will compete for bronze medal. She will compete with Katarin Prakapenka (Belarus).

Farida Gurbanova, competing in women’s -64 kg sambo event, lost to Yekaterina Sretu (Russia), 0:2 in semifinals.

Narmina Alizade, competing in women’s -68 kg sambo event, lost to Olga Namazova (Belarus) in semifinals. She will compete with French athlete Kelin Konde for a bronze medal.
