Armenia has reported 580  new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 27,900, AzVision.az reports, citing the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the country.

The death toll reached 477, as eight more fell victim to the virus.

Notably, Armenia reported its first coronavirus infection on March 1, in a citizen returning from neighboring Iran, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on Facebook.

The 29-year-old, who arrived in the former Soviet nation on Friday, went to a doctor because he was not feeling well.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to over 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
