Magnitude 6.9 quake hits off eastern Japan, no tsunami danger
An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.9 struck off the eastern coast of Japan on Tuesday, shaking Tokyo and other prefectures, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake, centered off the Ogasawara Islands some 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo, occurred at 9:25 p.m. at a depth of about 480 km, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

It registered 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Ogasawara and 2 in parts of eastern and northeastern prefectures. In most of Tokyo, it measured 1, the agency said.
