Head of the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Vusal Huseynov took part in the event, the Service told AzVision.az.
The event was also joined by UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam M. Isaczai, Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas, as well as ambassadors of the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan, officials of the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the IOM Headquarters in Vienna, representatives of Azerbaijan’s relevant bodies, NGOs and foreign companies operating in the country.
The event started with a minute of silence to honor the Azerbaijani military servicemen and a civilian killed during Armenia’s recent military provocations on the border with Azerbaijan.
Addressing the event, Huseynov noted that Azerbaijan enjoys close cooperation with the UN and IOM.
He expressed confidence that the establishment of the UN Migration Network in Azerbaijan will contribute to the successful implementation of the tasks arising from the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), which was adopted on the UN Secretary General’s initiative.
Huseynov said Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the establishment of an effective dialogue between peoples, countries and communities, and the country’s accession to GCM is a clear indication of this.
Huseynov stressed that the UN Migration Network in Azerbaijan will be a useful platform for gaining new knowledge, skills, experience, sharing information on migration and Azerbaijan’s best practices in this field with other countries.
Addressing the event, Ghulam M. Isaczai and Vladimir Gjorgjiev underlined the importance of the UN Migration Network in Azerbaijan for migration management and cooperation.
The UN Migration Network was established to provide effective, coordinated and systematic support to countries in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in May 2018. Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to support the UN Secretary General’s initiative.
