Minister: Azerbaijan can appeal for hosting 2024 Summer Olympic Games by September 15
“Major sporting events are leading to the Olympic Games.”
APA reports that Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov made the remarks.
The Minister said that Azerbaijan claimed for the Olympic Games to be held in 2016 and 2020. “European Games are good opportunity to show Azerbaijan’s readiness for Olympic Games. Azerbaijan will host World Chess Olympiad. We will try to hold the Chess Olympiad at the high level. Azerbaijan will also host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.”
The decision on holding Islamic Solidarity Games, 4 matches of European Football Championship 2020 in Azerbaijan is a good opportunity for demonstrating the country’s readiness in various fields. Azerbaijan can also appeal for hosting 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the final decision will be made by the head of state.
