Electric Yerevan: Central avenue paralyzed in protest - VIDEO
The protest against the planned hike in the electricity tariffs continues in Armenia’s capital, with a crowd of people joining the civic group “No to Plunder” in the sporadic rally in Baghramyan avenue.

The protest site is blocked. The crowd spent yet another night in the street, urging for a suspension of the decision to raise the tariffs.

The civic group launched the protest on Monday, rallying a crowd of supporters in Yerevan`s Liberty Square. They later headed to the Presidential Palace in a sporadic march, but the police later resorted to violence in an effort to supress the public anger.

On Monday night and Tuesday morning, the police used water cannons to disperse the crowd. They also held 237 protesters who were released shortly after being taken to police precincts. Uniformed and plain-clothed policemen used force against the peaceful crowd, especially journalists, breaking video and photo cameras.
