“As for the campaign started by the West against the European Games held in Baku, I can surely say that Russia is against politicization of all sport events. Russia too has been a target of such attacks many times. What we’re seeing today is that a similar purposeful campaign is underway against Azerbaijan over the European Games. We think the West’s such actions against Azerbaijan are unfair and unacceptable. Russia understands that Azerbaijan is a friendly and partner country and tries to provide every kind of support to this country,” said the Russian senator.
According to Kosachov, Russia’s friendly attitude towards Azerbaijan manifested itself when President Vladimir Putin attended the opening of the first-ever European Games. “There is a huge Russia delegation in Baku at the time the games are taking place. Russian athletes are successful at the European Games. This is indicative of how important the European Games are for Russia.
