`CoE uses human rights as instrument of political pressure`
“In our latest speech at the PACE session, I stated that we should reconsider our relations with the organization and analyze the situation seriously. Because recently, there are enough reasons to raise the issue of Azerbaijan’s membership in PACE,” head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told.

According to Seyidov, as the Council of Europe introduced itself as an organization which always seriously treats with the rule of law, democratic principles and human rights, the recent events suggest otherwise.

“Now we see that PACE has changed its attitude toward all these issues. The Council of Europe issues statement “don’t interfere with geopolitical issues, deal only with the issue of human rights.” But it became a part of the geopolitical struggle, the head of the delegation said.

Seyidov noted that Azerbaijan tried to apply human rights, rule of law and democratic principles in accordance with the European standards. “However, as we see that the processes taking place in Europe is now very problematic, characterized with steps running contrary to the national interest, we start to think over it”.

He said Andreas Gross is mainly speaking about the rule of law, human rights in Azerbaijan, noting that this person initiated the removal of the sentence on occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts by Armenia from resolution.
