He said it is needed to take into account that Syria is not Iraq, and various groups, including Al Qaeda and “Islamic State”, are fighting there.

Earlier it was reported that the former head of the General Staff urged Ankara to support the Syrian government.

Basbug said that currently Syria is in a critical situation, and both pro-Iranian and pro-Western forces are active on its territory.

“I believe that to achieve peace in Syria and to prevent the widening of the conflict, Turkey and other countries should support the Syrian government,” he said.

Previously, it was also reported that Turkey is considering the creation of safe zones in Syria between the cities of Aleppo, Idlib and the Turkish border, with the inclusion of the border towns of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), Jarabulus and others.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu earlier urged the UN to make a decision regarding the creation of safety zones in Syria.

Turkey’s authorities have been actively promoting the issue of establishing the safety zone in the north of Syria.

The Syrian authorities have repeatedly condemned the intention of the Turkish government and said that Damascus strongly rejects the creation of buffer zones, no matter where they are located.
