Azerbaijan sends protest note to UK
British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on July 1.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov expressed the protest of the Azerbaijani government over the visit of Bako Saakyan, who introduces himself as the head of the separatist regime created in the occupied Azerbaijani territories. Note that Bako Saakyan was invited to participate in the event to be held at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, on July 8, 2015, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told.

The minister stressed that such cases contradicts the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom and is against sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

In his turn Ambassador Irfan Siddiq said the UK does not recognize the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh regime and has no contact with any of its representatives, mentioning that he will inform his country`s Foreign Ministry about the concerns of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in the UK held a meeting at the Foreign Ministry in this country. A letter of protest has been handed over during the meeting.

In response to the letter, the UK Foreign Ministry said the British Government supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and does not recognize the regime established in Nagorno-Karabakh noting that the government`s position on this issue remains unchanged.

The British side stressed that the visit of the head of the separatist regime to the UK was not arranged by the government and during his visit to London, he won’t have any meeting with government official.
