“If the districts adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh are returned, international peacekeeping forces should be deployed to the region in order to ensure security in Nagorno-Karabakh,” the co-chair added.
Warlick said currently, this issue is not being discussed, however, the conflicting parties will determine whether a peacekeeping contingent will be under the patronage of the OSCE or the United Nations.
As for the principles and elements of the resolution process, Warlick said that most of them were specified during the period of time when the negotiations were being conducted under the auspices of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
“The matter is the continuation of the work done at that time. We do not try to invent new issues and new approaches. We try to continue the discussions on the basis of what was achieved at that time. This includes a number of important issues. Among them, there are issues such as return of the territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, the situation of the refugees and security guarantee. We consider these issues comprehensively,” Warlick said.
