The Azerbaijanis have been baking bread in “tendir”(Armanianized variant “tonir”) for centuries. “It is no coincidence that the most ancient “tendir” was found in the territory of Azerbaijan. There are “Chala”, “Doyma”, “Shireli”, “Qoyma”, “Kure” types of tendir in Azerbaijan. The oldest clay oven in Azerbaijan dates back to Eneolithic period, the Agency told.
Different lavash, tendir bread, beyimchoreyi, dishes and confectionery are made in underground and above ground clay ovens.
The agency also said that there are Azerbaijani folklore songs about “tendir”. “Popular culture figures of Armenia were widely using Azerbaijani folklore in 19th century. X. Abovyan, N. Nalbandyan, Q. Aghayan, P. Proshyan, R. Patkanyan, Q. Sundukyan are among them. Let`s take a concrete example: On the basis of words used in Kh. Abovian’s two works “Wounds of Armenia” and “Song of Agassi”, G.Gasparian has compiled and published a dictionary. The phrases received from our language were called "dialects" in that dictionary. (G.Gasparyan, Works, Vol. IV, Yerevan, Publishing House, 1947, in Armenian). Even without speaking about the proverbs received directly from the Turkish language, along with “tendir” other Azerbaijani words such as “plov”, “chalma”, “garagapakh”, “khurjun” were used in the Kh.Abovian’s novel “Wounds of Armenia”.
So, along with the widespread use of tendir in Azerbaijan and the historical places where Azerbaijanis live, the word “tendir” is an Azerbaijani word, with the Turkish etymology. Misappropriation of “tendir” by Armenians is the continuation of their theft of intellectual property.
