US ambassador joins bike rally "Think Globally, Act Locally" in Baku
The Green Cycling Club of the "Friends of Nature" Public Youth Association and the US Embassy in Azerbaijan organized a bike rally under the motto "Think Globally, Act Locally" in Baku on July 19.
US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta also joined the bike rally.

The ambassador told reporters that today’s event shows a common feature among the peoples of the US and Azerbaijan.

“Both peoples combine efforts to protect nature. First Lady Michelle Obama attaches great importance to the sport, always noting that people must act and go in for sports. Azerbaijani First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva also attaches value to the sport, and her exceptional contribution to the organization of the first European Games proofs it,” Mr Cekuta said.

Talking about the importance of protecting the environment, the ambassador recommended that for close distance people should prefer bicycles, which is eco-friendly, to cars.

“Our ancestors tried to protect the environment. So we also must sanitize the environment. By using bicycles instead of cars, we can both add to our health and save the environment from poisonous gases. For instance, if we travel 3 km by bicycle instead of car, we will have saved the environment from 1kg harmful gas,” noted the ambassador.

About 50 bikers who started off their rally at the Baku Maritime Station have ridden 13km passing through the city’s central streets.
