Incirlik airbase important locale to boost attacks on IS, says expert
Turkey
The expert believes that a no fly zone (NFZ) in Syria patrolled by Turkey and potentially by the US is meant to send a sharp message to the Bashar Assad regime that Ankara is finally taking Syria`s future seriously.

Previously, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Incirlik airbase can be partially used in operations against the IS if there is a necessity.

“There is no doubt that there is a sigh of relief in many capitals about Turkey finally getting involved in a proactive matter against IS,” said Karasik. “What drove Turkey to finally come to grips with IS was the attack at Suruc.”

Earlier this week, the Turkish city of Suruc on the border with Syria was hit by a powerful explosion. The terrorist attack killed 32 and injured about 100. Turkish officials are holding IS responsible for the attack.

Erdogan was reported on July 24 to say that Turkey would make every effort to prevent the activities of terrorist organizations. He added that Turkey’s air force will continue military operations against the IS militants.

Previously, on July 24, four F16 aircraft of the air force of Turkey carried out strikes on the IS positions on the border with Syria.
