Avigdor Lieberman: Development of Israel-Azerbaijan relations is important to us
The newly elected Israeli Knesset held a meeting to establish an inter-parliamentary friendship group Israel-Azerbaijan.

AzVision.az reports citing the State Committee for Work with Diaspora that, according to sources in the International Association Israel-Azerbaijan (Aziz), the meeting was chaired by the head of parliamentary friendship group, deputy, leader of the party "Israel Our Home", former Israeli foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman.

The meeting was attended by MPs from different parties, as well we political adviser to the Knesset Oden Ben Hur, head of department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel Oded Yosef, Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Daniel Steve, AzIz CEO Lev Spivak.

Lieberman provided detailed information about the relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan. Noting Azerbaijan`s geographical position and its economic potential, he stressed the importance of bilateral relations for Israel. The high level of trade between the two countries, as well as the further development of these relations in the future were also discussed at the meeting. It was noted that Israel imports 65% of its oil from Azerbaijan.

Participating in the meeting, the Israeli Foreign Ministry department head O.Yosef spoke about the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the preparation of joint projects in the sphere of culture. He offered to continue the mutual visits of the parliamentary delegations.

AzIz CEO Lev Spivak spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia. He noted that the occupied lands of Azerbaijan are bigger than Israel.

He also noted that attempts to discuss the issue of recognition of the "Armenian genocide" in Knesset every time creates a major concern in Azerbaijan. He asked the members of the Knesset not to make statements on this subject.

Political adviser to the Knesset Oded Ben Hur suggested not to use the word "genocide" during the further discussions.
