The visit comes following the Iran-P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China , and Germany ) historic deal on Tehran’s nuclear program on July 14.
Mogherini follows on from German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel’s visit to Iran last week, the first senior figure from the EU to visit the country since the deal.
Gabriel arrived in Tehran on July 19 to discuss Iran-Germany economic ties in post-sanctions period. He met senior Iranian officials including President Rouhani as well as Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian during his three-day visit.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius also will pay an official visit to Tehran on July 29. Other high-ranking European officials are due to travel Tehran soon.
