The first day of the school year in Azerbaijan was marked on 1 September before. However, under order of President Ilham Aliyev, classes in all educational institutions nationwide began to be marked on 15 September starting from 2004. This day was also declared Knowledge Day.
As many as 141,166 pupils will go to the first class in Azerbaijan this year with 74,998 of them being boys and 66,168 - girls.
The first lesson of the new school year will be dedicated to patriotism this year.
