Ali Abbasov: Skype, Facebook and WhatsApp should be licensed
“There is free Internet in Azerbaijan. No service is limited. At the same time social networks are functioning freely,” Ali Abbasov, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, told journalists.

The Minister added that there is no limit to social networks, including Skype, Facebook, WhatsApp, rendering communications services. Some of communications services were licensed in Azerbaijan. We consider that Skype, Facebook and WhatsApp should be also licensed. Licensing won’t create any problem for users. Regulatory authorities will sign contracts with those companies,” he said.

Abbasov added that the region`s largest Tier 3 data center will start operation in Azerbaijan in October. He said that the commissioning of the DATA-center will allow popularization of cloud services and accelerate the transition to the cloud services. “DATA-center will be the first of information processing centers in the region. The center will also serve other countries of the region, Google, Facebook and other big companies. It is very important for our information security and defending against cyber-attacks. Depending on demand, data-center capacity will be increased,” said the minister.
