Over $3.5 billion invested in Azerbaijan`s water supply and sewerage sphere in 10 years
The number of Baku residents provided with water in a centralized order increased by half times from 2003 to 2013, Chairman of "Azersu" JSC (national water operator) Korkmaz Huseynov said in this interview to the official website of New Azerbaijan Party posted on Tuesday.
"If the centralized water supply system in the capital covered around 1.56 million people ten years ago, now this figure is 2.366 million. This can be observed in the increase of water use. Thus, the volume of water from various sources in Baku and Absheron peninsular has increased by 23 per cent from 564 to 696 million cubic meters. The number of residents provided with an uninterrupted water supply has increased by 600,000 people and according to the latest data, amounted to 1.485 million people in 2011-2013 as a result of implementation of various projects," Huseynov said.

According to him, considerable progress has been achieved in the field of construction of new water pipelines.

"Around 4,280 kilometers of water supply lines was laid, 36 water receiving aggregates, 164 water reservoirs, 74 pumping stations were constructed. In addition, 175 artesian and sub-artesian wells were commissioned during the reporting period. Around 1490 kilometers of sewer lines were laid, 20 sewage pumping stations, three wastewater treatment plants were constructed, and three more have been repaired, " Huseynov said.

According to him, over 2.8 billion manat from different resources was invested in the sphere of water supply and sewerage during the reporting period.

"Some 1.8 billion manat of this sum was allocated from the state budget, some 779 million manat by the State Oil Fund and about 196 million manat through international financial organizations," Huseynov added.
