As the United Nations marks World Humanitarian Day, a day that annually recognizes the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the world and pays tribute to all heroic aid workers who have lost their lives helping the world`s most vulnerable people, thousands of South Sudanese still remain in displaced persons` sites, with more still awaiting assistance.

Marking the day in South`s Sudan`s capital, under the theme, `Inspire the World`s Humanity`, Eugene Owusu, UNMISS Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) and Humanitarian Coordinator said the people of South Sudan have tirelessly helped one another to survive in tragic circumstances, with neighbours and communities extending their hands and their homes to people fleeing from violence and with friends and families sharing meals and whatever meagre resources they have left with those who have arrived on their doorsteps.
