India hopes to sell more tea to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey
The Indian Tea Association hopes to find its "niche" in the market of tea in Azerbaijan and Georgia and wants through those countries to come to Turkey - the largest tea consumer in the world.
Association’s head Azam Munem has stated that Russia and CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, consume 200-220 million kg of tea annually, while India supplies only about 50 million kg (a quarter of its total export) to the region.

"Our goal is to strengthen our presence in the CIS region," Munem said.

He added that Georgia as a potential major center of the tea trade in the region causes great interest of Indian tea exporters.

"If we can make our presence in Georgia tangible, then we’ll be able to gain easy access to Turkey, which is the largest consumer of tea in the world," Munem emphasized.

Currently the price of a kilogram of Indian broad leaf tea is 247.56 rupees per kg (about $3.8).
