“The elections should be held transparently”

The exercise of voting rights is the inherent quality of the Azerbaijani state. Azerbaijan is a democratic and law-based state, and these principles are reflected in the Constitution. The election is very important in terms of exercising these rights. The elections held so far in Azerbaijan are compatible with all requirements of international documents.

First vice-speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov made the remarks at the meeting held by the Central Election Commission for chairmen of constituency election commissions in Baku on Friday.

Asgarov said the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan must be a model for other countries, and the elections should be held transparently and at the highest level.

Deputy Justice Minister Azer Jafarov, addressing the meeting, spoke about the documents that must be submitted to the ministry by the elections commissions during the election period and the examination of collected signatures.

As for electoral rights of people serving sentences in detention centers and prisons, Jafarpv said: “In connection with the organization of elections in prisons, we have close cooperation with the constituency and precinct elections commissions since 1995. 99 percent of voters eligible to vote in prisons participated in the previous parliamentary elections.
