`Azerbaijani police to prevent attempts of unauthorized events during election period`
Police are supposed to protect the rights of any citizen, regardless of his/her religion and race. The Interior Ministry has prepared a special action plan for the transparency of the elections. The action plan includes prevention of unreasonable intervention in the elections and the provision of the right of voters.
Deputy Interior Minister Oruj Zalov made the remarks on Friday at the meeting held by the Central Election Commission for chairmen of constituency election commissions.
Zalov said that the process of giving ID cards for citizens’ participation in the elections is expected to conclude by late October and that mobile ASAN Service is doing the work in places. “Police will help with problem for the determination of voter lists over migration, at the request of election commissions. Police will undergo trainings”.
The deputy minister stressed that if the candidate is registered he/she will be allowed to meet with voters.
“Local executive bodies and election commissions should be informed beforehand of these meetings so that police could ensure security during these meetings. Nevertheless, if there any events are held in unauthorized places and illegal slogans are uttered, police will prevent them. The public-political stability dominant in Azerbaijan enables us to successfully hold these elections, like we have done in the past. Police along with election commissions will be trying to ensure the election process is taking place normally. Security measures will be tightened during the election day. Police will be at you service for the bulletins to be carried from to constituency election commissions to precinct election commissions,” added Zalov.
