Tense moments between police and anti-government protesters in Armenia - VIDEO
The situation in Republic Square of Yerevan was tense as the activists of “Stand Up, Armenia” initiative were trying to block the streets leading to the square.

Three members of the initiative were detained for brining tires to the square. Despite police claims that they wanted to burn the tires, the activists argued they were brought to defend themselves from police officers.

“Our action is peaceful,” Sanasaryan emphasized.

After talks with one of the initiative leaders, deputy chief of Yerevan Valery Osipyan said detained activists will be released in 15 minutes.

The members of the “Stand up, Armenia” initiative staged a sit-in on July 27 in Yerevan’s Republic Square, demanding to revoke the decision on electricity price hike in Armenia.
