Azerbaijan, Serbia ink agreement on mutual social security

An agreement on mutual social security has been signed between Azerbaijan and Serbia, AzVision.az reports citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.

The document was signed within the framework of a meeting held via videoconference between the Azerbaijani Minister Sahil Babayev and the Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Darija Kisic Tepavcevic.

Thanks to the political will and efforts of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Serbia, relations between the two countries are developing and reaching the level of strategic partnership, Babayev said at the meeting.

He also noted the large-scale social reforms carried out in Azerbaijan on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev.

"Consistent reforms are being carried out in Azerbaijan aimed at strengthening the social security system and its improvement based on innovative approaches," the minister added.

Tepavcevic emphasized the importance of the memorandum of understanding in the areas of labor, employment and social protection, signed between the ministries of the two countries during her visit to Azerbaijan in July last year.

"The signed agreement will also play an important role in expanding cooperation and active exchange of experience," the Serbian minister said.

She noted that cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan based on friendly relations has reached the level of strategic partnership.

The signed agreement is of great importance in terms of ensuring the pension rights of citizens of the two countries. The document defines the mechanisms for recognition and protection of pension and other rights of citizens of Azerbaijan and Serbia for social insurance, the Azerbaijani ministry concluded.
