The message said that the forced 20 percent increase of fares on all international directions is due to transfer of the Republic of Kazakhstan to a freely floating national currency rate.
“The company decision is associated with specifics of the aviation industry, where most of expenses related to flight support, aircraft technical maintenance, personnel retraining and other air company expenses are covered in US dollars,” said the message of the SCAT Airlines.
“This measure is not aimed at increase of the company revenues, as it cannot cover all expenses related to unstable rate of US dollar to tenge. Fare increase for the specified percent does cover a particular part of the expenses related to support of international flights only.”
Since August 20, Kazakhstan launched a new monetary policy based on free floating tenge rate, and canceled the currency corridor. The exchange rate of the Kazakh currency dropped to 255.26 tenge per dollar, having decreased by 26 percent for one day, and by 31 percent since the beginning of 2015.
